Oculus VR is celebrating the launch of its newest virtual reality headset, the Oculus Touch, which it says will revolutionise the way we experience virtual reality.
The company also says it has released the first of a series of software updates that will bring the Touch to users who are not already using the Rift.
The Touch is expected to launch on 27 August.
“We’ve been working on Touch for several years now, and we’ve seen what it can do in our own VR headsets,” the company said in a blog post.
“In addition to delivering the best experience possible for our users, Touch will also be one of the first virtual reality headsets to bring true positional tracking to VR, which means the world will always remain in your view.”
This means you will always be aware of where you are in the world.
In the meantime, though, the company is rolling out an update for users who have already used the Rift’s new Oculus Touch software update.
The update adds support for both front-facing and rear-facing displays and a new option called “Virtual Lens”.
This option lets you use your front or rear lenses to create a virtual view of your surroundings.
You can see it in action here.
It looks quite different to what the company has been using for a while, though.
“You’ll notice it’s a much more sophisticated lens design, with two separate lenses to track your movement and position,” Oculus said.
“As a result, the headset’s optical quality is improved compared to what we’ve previously seen.
And with this new Lens, you’ll be able to use your Oculus Touch to move through VR environments with confidence.”
For now, though this is still a pretty small update, Oculus says it will continue to roll out more updates and updates for the Rift and Touch.
It said the new software updates will also bring a number of improvements to the Touch’s software.
One of those is a new feature called “Motion Capture”.
It lets you capture a scene using the Oculus Camera in front of you, and then upload it to Oculus’ servers so it can then be used in future software updates.
That means that users can now take virtual pictures and videos without needing to have a special setup.
The new feature will also allow you to track and position your virtual objects, such as virtual dogs or cats, by moving your head in front and looking at the objects in front.
It also means you can use the Oculus camera to zoom in on objects that are not in the camera’s field of view.
In addition to that, Oculus said it will be adding support for new virtual reality games.
These games will be designed for touch devices, and the company will offer “training” courses to help you learn how to use them.
Oculus also said it was launching a beta version of the Touch that allows you to “play the latest games” in the Oculus Store.
The beta will allow users to test new games before they go live, and it will also let them test them out on the Touch.
Oculus is also making an effort to make its virtual reality experience better than ever, with some VR games that have been available for a few months already being overhauled to bring new features.
These include the first-person perspective VR game The Void, which is based on a science fiction novel by author George R.R. Martin, as well as a new first-time shooter called SpaceChem, which lets players play through a series or mission in space.
Other games include the shooter FTL, the first ever real-time, first-life physics simulation Space Hulk, the sci-fi RPG Space Hulk: Battlefront, the adventure and survival game Space Engineers, and a first-contact space sim called Space Station 13.
The Oculus Rift and Oculus Touch are available now for $599, $799 and $1,299 respectively.
They are available to buy now through Oculus.com.
